Interpret the animal prints that Hermes loves with colorful leather marquetry. The leather collage is inlaid with lifelike horse heads and zebra stripes, meticulously decorated with Arceau watches and Slim d’Hermès dials. In such a limited space, these delicate patterns of slim calf leather panels can be a true miniature craftsmanship. The rare white gold version launched this time is a limited edition.
Above the limited space, Hermès leather marquetry depict horse or zebra patterns in coloured leather. The craftsman knows how to make saddleware and leather processing, through his skillful hands from choosing, cutting and arranging, so the leather color pieces embedded in the round case exudes a delicate luster. The ultra-high requirements of the craftsmanship of the leather workmanship complement the precision skills required to assemble the movement. Hermès selects full-grain calfskin with a leather thickness of only 0.5 mm, which is then precisely cut according to the size and shape of the stitching. Finally, the leather craftsman will place a piece of leather original to the corresponding position on the dial and form the final design.
The Arceau watch and the Slim d’Hermès watch are the stage for the art of miniature leather.
ARCEAU Cavales Wristwatch
“Hermès Red” and “Indigo Blue” are the two representative colors of Hermès. They show the charm of these two colors in different materials, while a little flame orange or agate red is just right as embellishment. After six hours of patience stitching by the craftsman, the colored leather materials will be paired with a delicate poppy flower petal or a fashion camouflage pattern. A close look at the dial of “Cavales” reveals that the decorative patterns are bilaterally symmetrical. The slender willow needle slowly slides over the dial, and the surface of the miniature leather craft is embedded in a 43 mm diameter Arceau case. The same-colored smooth calfskin strap is attached to the asymmetrical horse-shaped lugs. The watch is equipped with a Hermès self-winding mechanical movement that provides sufficient power for the hour and minute hands. The two watches are limited to six.
SLIM D’HERMÈS Les Zèbres de Tanzanie Wristwatch
The low-key temperament of the Slim d’Hermès watch further highlights the beauty of the zebra stripes. In addition to the fine Miniature leather, the watch also uses both internal and micro-painting techniques. With its ultra-thin case, right-angled lugs and an open dial, the “Les Zèbres de Tanzanie” watch takes the animal design from the artist Yves-Marie de Malleray in 2010 to a new artistic height. Colorful hand-stitched leather inlaid stripes enhance the texture of the micro-pattern. The multi-layered white enamel is filled with the original stenciled dial. After drying and firing, the dial is also hand-polished. Finally, the craftsman uses the ultra-fine brush and the enamel powder mixed with natural extracts to carefully depict the zebra stripes. After 26 hours of simmering and leather finishing, the pattern is finally perfectly embellished with a matte and bright face-to-face ratio of Etoupe and Graphite. The watch is powered by the Hermes ultra-thin H1950 movement, which is equipped with a mini-turret. The slender rod-shaped needle also slowly slides over the delicate art dial with its vibration frequency. The three white gold watches are paired with a matt alligator strap, each limited edition of 12 pieces.
These craftsmanships combine Hermès Red, Maltese Blue or Graphite – the brand’s signature colours, a perfect blend of leather craftsmanship and watchmaking skills.
